An Example of Family Law "Justice"

Florida, 2001
Formerly, lengthy and detailed accounts of my experiences were available here. I am now replacing those files with a very brief story.
I became emotionally ill with severe depression and it took a long time and a very convoluted path to find my way out of that state. In the process, I lost my career, my home and my marriage.
While I was trying to recover financially and floundering, my ex-wife sued to force me to continue paying a monthly amount that by that point in time was almost equal to my gross monthly income. The judge was not interested in my sworn testimony and my wife won the lawsuit, which resulted in my being homeless (unable to support any housing expense) for about 18 months while I gathered documentary evidence of what had happened, filed it with the court and requested a hearing for a reduction of my court-decreed financial obligation.
The same judge heard my request, and this time did not treat my testimony as lies, since I was able to present evidence to support it. My payments were reduced to the point that I was able to resume a more normal life, although I am still living from paycheck to paycheck with no financial buffer.
I have gotten over my depression and am optimistically working to create the life that I desire.
